The Green Team - biodiversity group

HOME \ DAILY LIFE \ BIODIVERSITY GROUP

May 2008

The pond in the quadrangle is now in the final stages of completion. A number of projects are under way to increase the variety of habitats, plants and animals within the school grounds. Anyone interested in joining the group should come to room 40 on Thursdays at 1:15pm. Further details are available from Mrs Meredith.

November 2007 - 'The Green Team' begin construction of wildlife pond

On 22nd November a very enthusiastic 'Green Team' set to work digging a pond in the quad. These are the first pictures of their efforts. When finished we hope to have a resource that will be used and enjoyed throughout the school for both learning and pleasure. We will add more pictures of our progress so watch this space!

March 2007 - bulb planting

Bulbs have been flowering in profusion around The House. These are the products of our work in the michaelmas term, when we planted 2000 bulbs. We have also planted 30 trees (cherry, silver birch and rowan) and are now designing a butterfly garden behind the art and DT block.

flowering bulbs and recent work

The beginnings - November 2006

The recently formed group, named "The Green Team", of 25+ pupils (3rd to 6th form) have had a busy few weeks planting 1500 native bulbs in the area beside The House. Gradually the plot will develop as a wildlife area, with plans to build nest boxes, bird feeders and an invertebrate hotel, as well as plant summer wild flowers and more trees. Later in the year we will be constructing some natural wooden seating, so watch this space!
