2008-2009
The philosophy behind the curriculum is that the school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, and discourages premature specialisation. The curriculum for 2008/2009 will be as shown below. The number in brackets indicates the number of periods per week for that subject. The table is meant as a summary and if you would like more detailed information you should contact the Director of Studies at the school.

Fourth and Fifth Forms (Years 10 and 11)

Pupils take 10 GCSEs.

Compulsory GCSE subjects are:

  • Mathematics (5)
  • English Language and Literature (5)
  • Physics (3)
  • Chemistry (3)
  • Biology (3)
  • A modern language (4)

Compulsory non-GCSE subjects are:

  • PE (1)
  • PSE (1)
  • Games/Rowing (3)

Option GCSE subjects are taught for 4 periods per week for each subject. Pupils choose 3 subjects from:

  • Geography
  • History
  • Spanish
  • French
  • German
  • Latin
  • Design Technology
  • Art
  • Economics and Business Studies
  • Music
  • Religious Studies

IT (Information Technology) is not offered as a GCSE course but pupils may take the ECDL qualification as an extra curricular option.

* from September 2008 a modern language is compulsory but is no longer required to be French

Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13)

Sixth Form

Students will take four of the following subjects at AS level in the lower sixth with eight periods each:

Maths Spanish
Further Maths Latin
Physics Religious Studies
Chemistry Art
Biology Music
English Language Music Technology
English Literature Computing
Business Studies Sports Science
Economics Politics
Geography Classical Studies
History History of Art
French Design Technology
German  

In the upper sixth they may choose to take three or four of their AS subjects to A-level. In addition all sixth form students have a games afternoon (3 periods)
