Physical education plays a vital role in the development of every student. The PE curriculum is designed to promote health and fitness, develop physical skills, and encourage a positive attitude towards participation in sport. As part of a health-related fitness course, each student undertakes an annual programme of fitness tests.

The superb indoor and outdoor sports facilities include extensive playing fields, eight tennis courts, a sports hall, a heated indoor swimming pool, six netball courts, three cricket squares, a grass athletics track, a floodlit all-weather sports pitch, and a fitness centre.

The core activities in the first three years include gymnastics, basketball, netball, swimming, hockey, dance, cross-country, and athletics. In games lessons all students are taught the basic skills of football or netball, hockey, rugby, cricket and tennis. In the fourth and fifth forms, students are taught additional skills that include badminton and volleyball. In the sixth form there is greater emphasis on the recreational needs of senior students. Squash, golf, roller hockey and canoeing are included in a wide choice of other popular activities.

All students attend outdoor education courses during the first three years in the senior school. From the fourth year onwards students can opt to take part in bronze, silver and gold assessments in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Sceme.

The school enjoys outstanding success in inter-school competition and students frequently achieve county or national representation in their chosen sport. A wide range of inter-school sports fixtures is offered to all age groups. The sports available to students include football, hockey, rugby, cricket, tennis, basketball, badminton, athletics, cross-country and netball.

Inter-house sports competitions take place in all the major PE activities. The emphasis is on participation so that all can experience representative sport in a friendly and familiar environment.

The school has extensive playing fields and few primary schools can offer the range of games available here. We field five or six teams at football and two teams at cricket and many fixtures take place on Saturdays. Selection for teams is on merit and all pupils can be considered. There is a full inter-house sporting programme for all and competitive and recreational opportunities in swimming, tennis, athletics, cross country and pop lacrosse.
