Trombone |
| Percussion |
Piano |
| Viola |
Bassoon |
| Oboe |
Tenor Horn |
| Trumpet |
Saxophone |
Lessons take place in the music school and are
usually given on a rota basis during the school day. Trinity College
of Music examinations can be taken in December or May.
The choir rehearses once a week and sings at a
number of special occasions during the school year including the
Prize Giving and Open Morning. The choir always sings at concerts
in school and in Chester Cathedral for the end of term services.
All students who have had lessons on their orchestral
instrument for at least two terms are in the orchestra. All students
learn to play the descant recorder in year 1 as part of their music
lessons.
Many
students are already active musicians when they first join the senior
school. Others take up an instrument for the first time in the Removes.
There are many opportunities for public performance
including lunchtime recitals and formal concerts. Whether tastes
are classical or modern, formal or informal, students of all ages
are encouraged to rehearse and perform together.
The school choir and the Schola Cantorum perform
choral works in concerts and lead cathedral worship.
