HOME \ DAILY LIFE \ CURRICULUM \ choosing option subjects

Please see the curriculum page for general information about which subjects are taught in the different yeargroups and how the weekly teaching periods are distributed between those subjects. There are also lists showing how option subjects are grouped for timetabling purposes.

Some GCSE courses are compulsory and others are chosen by the students. Students make their subject choices in the Lent term of the third form (year 9). At the same time fifth form (year 11) students are choosing which subjects they would like to study in the sixth form.

These GCSE and A level subject choices are obviously key decisions for the students. We do what we can to provide information and guidance for the students and their parents to help them to make the best choices. Students receive information and guidance through formal sessions where presentations are given to groups of students and through informal contact with staff. There are also various documents which the students and their parents can look at together. The main purpose of this page is to provide a means by which the key documents can be viewed and printed, just in case a document has been mislaid or an extra copy is needed. All documents, except for the PowerPoint presentation, are in MS Word format. Use the links below to view or download.
