King's Chester is the one of the top independent, private day schools for boys and girls. It has Junior (preparatory), Senior and Sixth Form sections and takes pupils from Cheshire, Shropshire, the Wirral and North Wales. It consistently achieves somes of the best academic results in the area; offers academic bursaries; and is well known for its sports, rowing and music.

Developments

There was a major development programme during the period 2002 to 2007 which included:

  • co-educational facilities, such as changing rooms and toilets (2002)
  • new Music School (2007)
  • development of the Junior School buildings (2002)
  • all-weather pitch (2003)
  • floodlighting (2003)

Developments in 2008/09

  • refurbishment of science labs (2007 & 2008)
  • improvement and extension of kitchen facilities (2008)
  • Sony language laboratory (2008)
  • redevelopment of the old library to provide offices and a meeting room (2008)
  • redevelopment of the “Headmaster’s House” to provide support function offices (2009)
  • redevelopment of the “Tower” to house an expanded Economics and Business Studies Dept

Development in 2010/11

  • Vanbrugh Theatre opened in June 2011 with retractable raked seating, improved backstage storage area and changing rooms
  • Improved Sixth Form common room
  • Junior School adventure trial and outdoor stage

Future planned development for 2011/12

  • Refurbishment to the area at the back of the theatre and reception
  • Sixth Form Centre-improvements
  • Establishment of an allotment
