Economics and Business Studies

The economics and business department page is undergoing development, with a view to providing a guide to what the department does and the content of its courses. 'Learning resources' have been removed from the site as these are available to students on the departmental Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and are being updated. Login to the VLE at itslearning.com.

The department is currently re-writing all schemes of work at GCSE and A Level. It is hoped that the outline schemes of work (below) will be accompanied by detailed guidance by topic in the very near future (there are examples of this guidance for Year 10 students of GCSE economics and business below). All of this guidance will be made available on the VLE for students' use.

If there are things you would like to see on this web page, please contact Stephen Walton (Head of Economics and Business) via email (stephenwalton@kingschester.co.uk).

News item - "It's official- Kings is the best school for Girls and Boys for GCSE Economics!"

The Economics and Business Department is celebrating the success of winning two awards in the 2009 Good Schools' Guide GCSE Awards.

The first award is for the best results achieved at GCSE by boys studying Economics and Business Studies at an English Independent School. The second is for the best results achieved by girls studying Economics and Business Studies at an English School.

The awards are made on the basis of GCSE results for the three years 2006, 2007 and 2008 combined, and in particular on the basis of the popularity of each subject relative to similar schools, and of the success that pupils achieve relative to the other examinations that they take. The aim is to highlight excellent teaching in individual subjects.

Last year Isabel Hughes (L6LB) achieved a place in the top ten nationally, in the GCSE Economics and Business exams. 6 King's students have featured in the national top ten in each of the last four years.
