Naming of The Tim Turvey Music School
We were honoured that Mr. Turvey, who retired as headmaster last year, returned to officially name the new music school “The Tim Turvey Music School” on the evening of Tuesday, the 19th February. Mr Turvey had been largely responsible for the provision of the new music school. The Lord Mayor of Chester, the School Governors, and pupils with a particular interest in music and their parents were invited to watch as Mr Turvey unveiled the plaque.
Before the unveiling ceremony, we were treated to a Woodwind Masterclass. This was given by the famous clarinettist Andrew Marriner. Ben Cuffin-Munday (clarinet), Helena Cooke (oboe), Sally Alstead (clarinet), Niall Gilding (flute) and Edward Andrade (clarinet) all gave performances in front of the assembled audience. Mr Marriner made suggestions to each of them on how to improve their playing. The points he made were of interest to us all and everybody had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Pro Corda National Chamber Music Festival - February 2008
Friday 1st February 2008 saw three of our chamber music ensembles perform in the preliminary round of a national chamber music competition arranged by ‘ Pro Corda’, based down in Sussex. Visit the Pro Corda website.
The three ensembles pictured below incorporate musicians from shells through to the sixth form and they performed music from Haydn through to Frank Bridge and Handel.
Mr Ioan Davies, international cellist, one of the founder members of the world renowned Fitzwilliam String Quartet and also founder of the Pro Corda organisation that promotes chamber music making throughout the country is seen with our ensembles giving them each a coaching session following their performances.
Everybody concerned found the sessions extremely rewarding and beneficial to their development as musicians.
The morning was organised by Mr. Adrian Rushforth, Head of Strings.
Pictured below, in photographic order are:
- String Quartet: Emily Lee, Tatsuhiro Nomagucchi, Michael Lumb and Miriam Bowen
- Piano Trio: Selim Ungut, Hiroshi Amako, Rachel Dixon
- String Quartet: Lara Goodwin, Terence Au, Will Millar and Jeremy Telford
