On the last day of term the U15 boys and girls hockey squads played the regional round of the tournament. Yet more sporting successes
The 1st XI (soccer) played and won the Chester and District Schools’ FA U18 championship, beating Upton in the final 3-1. Full report on the football results page.
The U15 boys hockey team and the U15 girls hockey team both played in a youth hockey tournament – The Road to Bell Vue – and both teams won. They will now play in finals at Bell Vue stadium on June 24th which, if they win, will mean that they will play exhibition matches in front of the international crowd as a precursor to the European Hockey Championships in the summer.
Our U12 girls cricket team entered ‘a tournament’ and found, when they arrived, that it was the North East Wales and Cheshire Schools U18 championship. Despite their relative inexperience they won all their matches and were declared the tournament winners – so they are the NEW & CS U18 Cricket Champions!
The U15 football squad were runners-up in the Chester and District Cup, losing narrowly 2-3.
The U14 football squad played remarkably well to reach the final of the Chester and District Cup. They played the better football but could not convert their clear superiority into goals and lost 0-2 to Upton.
The U12 football squad had a very successful season. Of their 21 matches they won 17, scoring 100 goals in the process. They were beaten finalists in the Chester and District School Cup. Player of the year was Sam Powell.
More success for the U14 hockey team
The U14 Girls Hockey Squad won their third trophy in as many weeks. On Saturday they won the Cheshire Schoolgirls Outdoor Trophy; having already secured the Chester and District Outdoor and Cheshire Indoor. A huge, huge achievement. This team have had an exceptional year considering they are made up of mainly U13 squad players who are a year young in these competitions. Well done to all players.

British Heart Foundation Junior Golf Championship
On Friday of last week Josh Rudge (handicap 15), Michael Brockbank (19) and James Lightfoot (12) represented the school in the British Heart Foundation Junior Golf Championship at Upton-by-Chester golf club. The competition raises money for the charity through the sponsorship of participants, while also seeking to improve awareness of the disease. It is supported by the R&A as well as by Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie, who describes the competition as "a must for all junior golfers."
The format consist of each player compiling his own full handicap stableford score, with the best two being totaled for a final score, and the third being used for a playoff in case of a tie. The team returned a total score of 85 points with James scoring 45pts, Michael 40pts, and Josh 35pts. This score won the competition for the team by 3pts, and allowed them to advance to the regional final, at Eaton G.C. in July, ahead of the other 24 teams in the field. From here the team will attempt to qualify for the national finals which will be held in September at the Belfry, a four time Ryder Cup venue.

As North of England champions the King's team took part in the national finals at St Edward's School, Oxford. The first matches were quarter finals. Full match reports on the hockey results page.

Breakfast at the boathouse
The King’s School Boathouse made an early start on Tuesday 6th March when a TV production crew arrived to film an advertisement for a well known brand of breakfast cereal. This involved using two of the schools eights to film a fictitious start to a University Boat Race. The two crews included oarsmen from Manchester clubs as well as King’s rowers. John Blackwell and Duncan Little were on hand to give expert advice.
The Boat Race, of course, never started because all the rowers decided instead to pick a bowl of ???????????????????????????????????
The School does not endorse any particular brand of breakfast cereal!
