Dive training
18 students and 3 staff will travel to Tanzania this summer to engage in Biodiversity survey work. After a week in the forests and savannahs of this tremendously biodiverse East African country, students will complete a week diving on coral reefs in the Indian Ocean. Essential preliminary dive safety training was recently undertaken in the slightly less exotic surroundings of Chester University pool and the Chester City Baths, thanks to the Chester School of Diving and Chester Sub-Aqua Club. Students familiarised themselves with equipment and basic safety drill such as mask and ear clearing and and buoyancy regulation. All students completed the preparation successfully and are now ready for the next stage in their training in Tanzania.

Training day in Delamere Forest
In preparation for this summer's biodiversity expedition to Tanzania, 18 students and three members of staff enjoyed a day in Delamere forest team building problem solving and getting covered in mud!

The photographs show some of the activities we undertook including climbing the twelve foot wall, getting over the beam and  bridge building. A competitive element was introduced when the lower and upper sixth were split into two teams competing for points in all the morning activities. Upper Sixth claimed honours in the overall competition but the lower sixth won the orienteering competition. In the afternoon the teams built shelters and were taught how to sling hammocks and tarpaulins for use in the rainforest, skills they will need for real this summer .
