WELCOME TO THE SIXTH FORM @ KING'S

The purpose of this section of the school website is to act as an introduction to King's Sixth Form and what we can offer you through the most important part of your secondary education.

The Sixth Form offers students the opportunity to take a great level of control over their own learning, more freedom in how to use their own time and the facilities available to you and, most importantly, acts as the springboard between school and University. With competition for places at University being more competitive than ever now it is vital that students give themselves the best chance of success by being the most attractive proposition they can be to Universities, primarily through academic prowess and achievement, but also through the various skills that they will be able to develop during their time here and through the myriad of extra-curricular opportunities offered to them.

The Sixth Form will be challenging if students are to get the most out of it but it should also be enjoyable as they challenge themselves to achieve the best they can in all they partake. Expectations will be high and students will need to be self-motivated – but that doesn't mean that help isn't at hand when it is needed. Tutors will see students on a daily basis, and remain with them during their time in the Sixth Form, acting as an adviser and a confidante – in short they help to look after students through their time in the Sixth Form! In addition to tutors students can also seek advice and guidance from the Assistant Heads of Sixth Form, Mrs Hollingworth and Mrs Chadwick, teachers and for all matters, but particularly university entry, myself.

The Sixth Form is also about taking responsibility – not only for work and achievement – but also for the school and the students. Whether students like it or not they will be a role model to the younger students, who will take their cues for behaviour and uniform from the Sixth Form and it is therefore essential that students act responsibly and set a good example. It also requires students to be punctual, reliable and responsible for their own actions. In response to this Sixth Form students will be afforded a number of privileges which I hope they will enjoy but also respect. The Upper Sixth offers many opportunities for greater responsibility through the various Prefect positions which will also enable students to develop their skills and talents during their time at King's.

If this brief description of Sixth Form life at King's interests you why not come and visit us at our Open Evening or Open Morning. You might also want to come for a tour or a taster day to see if King's Sixth Form is right for you – I believe it to be a great opportunity for ambitious and determined students, I hope you will too.

Yours,

Toby Hughes
