Sport
Sport has always featured prominently in school life at King's with lessons in teamwork and individual responsibility driven home at every level. All students have two sessions of sport per week - one covering PE and one covering games. In their time at King's students can experience a vast array of sports:
We encourage "sport for all" and have an extensive number of extra-curricular clubs which are open to all. Our house system of sport means that almost every student will get on to a team at some times in their school life. We do however specialise in some main sports: Football
We compete in all of the district competitions and host many of the finals. We compete in the Cheshire County Cup Competitions and have had recent success in the national cup competitions for independent schools. As a member of the Independent Schools' Football Association, The King's School applied to be awarded Focus School Status in September 2009. After the application process King's were one of only 8 schools in the country to be successful. As a FA Focus School, King's will be helping students throughout the North West region gain coaching and refereeing qualifications, as well as helping develop football at Primary Schools in the Chester area. We have one rugby pitch. Hockey
We are extremely fortunate to have a specialist ex-Olympic hockey coach. NetballNetball is played by girls in all years with many successes at district level. TennisWe boast eight tennis courts and a senior team, under the watchful guidance of a professional coach, regularly reaches the national finals. SwimmingWe are very lucky to have our own pool which is used extensively. Every student will have a weekly session of swimming in their timetable. Cricket
AthleticsOur extensive grounds allow us to have a permanent grass running track and plenty of throwing facilities. A full athletics and cross-country programme caters for all students via the house competitions and the inter-school competitions in the district for our more serious athletes. Sports hallThis is used for all indoor sports and has four badminton courts. It is used for basketball and a wide range of other sports. |
