Match ReportsU14 girls drew 0-0 against Bishop Heber away March 11, 2010U14 girls drew 0-0 against Queens away March 11, 2010U14 girls drew 0-0 against Abbey Gate College away March 11, 2010U14 girls drew 0-0 against Upton away March 11, 2010U14 girls won 2-0 against Christleton HS away March 11, 2010This was one of those frustrating tournaments that although the ball was in the King's attacking half for much of each game the girls could just not get the ball in the goal. With four draws in total and eventually a 2-0 win in the final game the squad came 3rd place overall. Everyone gave it their all. Kitty Abberton was very solid in defence, at one point moving upto centre forward in a last ditch effort against Upton to put the ball in the goal as her hit was so strong. But it was not to be our night. Eleanor Barnard and Sara Ashworth along with Lucy Armatage tried so hard to find the goal on numerous occasions but we couldn't get the shots off quick enough or we just topped the ball. Ellie Kerney Mitchell had a great tournament and it was pleasing to see her score in the final match against Christleton. King's will face these teams again in the final of the County tournament in a weeks time, hopefully we can turn things around for then and the goals will flow as they deserved to tonight. back to results tables1st XI won 5-4 against St Anselms home March 10, 2010Another mixed performance saw the King's boys go in front through two excellent goals early in the game, only to concede either side of half time allowing St Anselms back into the game. King's did show some character and twice more went ahead only to concede at the other end. The winner came from an excellent move in the final 2 minutes, neatly finished by John Reeves. It was pleasing to bounce back from last weeks disappointment and the team will be looking to build on this in the run up to the Holland Tour in April. back to results tablesU13 A girls won 8-0 against Weaverham HS away March 08, 2010U13’s match vs Weaverham (match report by Kitty Abberton)
For us this was the last game of the season and we wanted to finish on a high, and we did! We had the advantage from the start as we had first pass. This was then followed by a great hit from Gabi Tuite from top ‘d’ scoring the first goal in the first 5 minutes of the game, shortly followed by Georgina Hodson’s powerful hit also from top ‘d’. Their centre was taken quickly and our defence was tested for the first time but we stayed strong, Emily Gregg, Claire Kaye and Siân Jackson working on marking closely. Our next goal was a short corner taken very well by Kate Huber to Kitty Abberton who had a sharp strike from top ‘d’. Later on a great dribble up the line by Anna Longson who passed to Georgie Hodson to Kate Huber, then passed to Ellie Kearney-Mitchell who was waiting at the penalty spot, who then guided the ball into the back of the goal. The defence was tested again but this time leading to Weaverham’s first and only short corner this was Zoë Soutters ‘time to shine’ but the ball was expelled from the ‘d’ by good team work by Anna Longson and Gabi Tuite. D’arcy Tuite also had several great runs down the line. Half time was a good time to have a talk about tactics. Weaverham had obviously had a stern talk because their push back was strong but not strong enough! A good tackle by Georgie got us running down the pitch and then a foot in the ‘d’ led to another short corner, Kitty Abberton scoring again. Ellie K-M with another strike ricocheting off the post past the keeper into the goal. A hard hit from Bronwen Hulme sent the score from 6 to 7 with 5 minutes left of the game, this leading to D’arcy Tuite wanting to score, so much to the extent of when ever we had the ball in the ‘d’ we passed to her she finally got her goal which was also the last goal of the season, as Kate Huber passed to a skillful Anna Longson to Ellie K-M with a quick pass to D’arcy on the penalty spot, who then wacked it for all she was worth into the goal. It was 8-0 at full time. Kitty Abberton was voted ‘’Man of the Match’. Unfortunately Zoë didn’t have much to do, as the ball only twice went it to our ‘d’. We had most of the possession because all of the squad played very well. We all finished off the season well. Squad: Zoë Soutter (GK), Emily Gregg, Claire Kaye, Kate Huber, Georgie Hodson, Bron Hulme, Anna Longson, Siân Jackson, Ellie Robson, Kate Robson, Ellie Kearney-Mitchell, Kitty Abberton(c), Gabi Tuite, D’arcy Tuite. U12 A girls won 12-1 against Weaverham HS away March 08, 2010U12 match report by Katie Lawrence-Smith Kings dominated quickly in the first third, starting off very well. Emily Boothroyd scored within the first minute and great passing upfront led to a fast 6 goals. In the second third Kings were strong all round and had great clearances and tackles in defence. Anna Willis often pushing the ball back up the pitch again. The second third ended as 9-0 to kings. By the last third Weaverham were fighting back but Kings still managed a way around them, in the end Sophie Drew scoring 4 goals, Emily Boothroyd 6 and Katie Lawrence-Smith 2 goals. Charlotte Knight was named player of the match for her amazing defending, Weaverham unable to defeat her. Overall Kings played a great match winning away to Weaverham 12-0. 1st XI won 9-3 against Moreton Hall home March 03, 2010After a shaky start Kings organised themselves to gain control with some good passing play through the midfield, finished well by the forwards. back to results tables1st XI lost 1-3 against Rydal away March 03, 2010I think that disappointing is the best way to describe this below par performance by the team that has only lost 2 games this season. It seems in the first half, the journey had taken its toll and the boys seemed sluggish and tired. The second half was much better. King's created chance after chance and finally scored via an excellent penalty corner strike by Jonathan Rodger. Lewis Ankers was the team's saving grace in goal, producing an outstanding diving stick save in the middle of the half. Will Leaman was his usual athletic self and was well supported by Matt Harle and Jonathan Rodger. Considering last week, the team were so close to gaining a place in the last 10 in the National Cup, this performance was one to put down to experience. Hopefully this talented bunch will bounce back against St Anselms next week. back to results tablesU14 girls won 8-0 against Hartford home February 27, 2010U14 girls won 3-0 against Leftwich home February 27, 2010U14 girls drew 0-0 against Heath home February 27, 2010King's won the preliminary round of the Cheshire Outdoor with three good results. In the first game goals were a plenty against Hartford and all forwards were on top form. In the second match against Heath King's were up against a defensive team and had to battle and battle and battle. They failed to take their chances in front of goal and knew they had to win the last game scoring plenty of goals to secure a greater goal difference than the other schools. Against Leftwich 3 goals was enough to secure the victory and a place in the finals at the end of March. back to results tablesU16 girls won 8-1 against Newcastle-under-lyme home February 27, 2010Despite a slow start in the first half, Kate Coppack managed to score our first goal as a deflection from a smashing hit into the D by Emily Moss. Relaxing after this goal, the determined opposition fought back and managed to secure a draw with us. However, this was only momentary as we responded to this goal by immediately setting about on improving our communication and the accuracy of our passes. We were soon rewarded for our efforts, and, come the second half, we completely dominated the game against the defensive Newcastle-under-lyme side. By the end of the game the final score was 8-1. A well-deserved win.
Our goal scorers were Megan Rudge and Kate Coppack, who scored 3 goals each, and Hannah Dent, who scored 2 goals.

By Lara Goodwin U13 A girls drew 0-0 against Newcastle-under-lyme home February 27, 2010The u13 team drew 0-0 on Saturday against Newcastle-under-Lyme. It was tight game with end to end play. The defence was solid throughout with, Sian Jackson, Sarah Lusher, Claire Kaye and Emily Gregg making many good saves along with Zoë Souter in goal. The midfield and attack worked hard and played strongly, but the goals never quite got there. The match was well played by everyone against a strong and evenly matched team reflected in the score line. back to results tablesU12 A girls drew 5-0 against Newcastle-under-lyme home February 27, 2010We started off with an advantage as we had first pass. From the start of the game we played as a team and we had good passing, and this helped us score our first goal, by Emily Boothroyd, in the first half of the game. We marked Newcastle – Under – Lyme well and all of team worked and defending and getting goal side of the ball on hits. This helped as at the end of the first half of the game Newcastle had scored no goals, and Rebecca Reeves, our goalkeeper, stopped the balls that came to her when she needed to very well.
In the second half we had an amazing game, we had improved on things that had been holding us back and attacked the ball very well. Our three up – fronts, Harriet, Emily and Eloise worked really well together with their passing and shooting, and Emily scored two more spectacular goals that were well set up by our other players. The score was now 3 – 0, and our attackers were working well, but our defenders, Sophie, Ffion and Lucy, were defending the ball and sending it to the other players nicely when needed. Quickly after Emily’s goal, our captain for the match, Harriet Fisher, struck a great goal making the score go to 4 – 0! We still had around five minutes left and in this time Emily scored her 4th goal!
We finished with a score of 5 – 0, and Emily was voted ‘Man of the Match’ by Newcastle. We had a really good game.

U12 A girls won 7-2 against Christleton HS home February 24, 2010King's played very well against an inexperienced but very determined Christleton side. Emily Boothroyd was on fire in front of goal and has developed a lovely striking action. When Katie Lawrence-Smith came on at half time she played some very intelligent passes that led to her own goal and a few of Emily's. A good team performance. back to results tables1st girls won 6-2 against Christleton HS home February 24, 2010King's dominated the game against a defensive Rishworth side. King's could have doubled the score line with the amount of short corners they failed to convert however played well agaist a determined and focused Rishworth defence. Kate Saunders was skilful when in possession which led to her 3 goals. Sophie Clough was solid in defence and at times the passing around the back was impressive. A good team performance by all players. back to results tables1st girls indoor won 3-1 against Lymm away February 10, 20101st girls indoor drew 3-3 against Bishop Heber away February 10, 20101st girls indoor won 3-1 against Christleton away February 10, 2010The final was played at NEWI's fantastic indoor sports hall for this closely contested U19 indoor final with King's, Bishop Heber, Lymm and Christleton. King's were slow to start in their first two games and had to go a goal down to wake up and start playing. In the first game against Lymm after going down a goal the girls' went on to cruise to victory with Sophie Clough dominating the midfield and Hannah Rudge playing solidly in defence. In the second match against Heber King's once again went a goal down early on and had to work hard to make it 1-1 with a solo run from Kate Saunders. Heber then went ahead and King's clawed another goal back through Amy Bellis before again going a goal down. With the final whistle gone and only the penalty corner left to play, Sophie Clough scored to make the game 3-3 with an expertly placed flick from the top of the circle. In the final match King's played their usual attacking game and showed why they have been champions at district and county level over the last two years. Again Sophie Clough was brilliant in midfield, defence and attack and Kate Phillipson and Siobhan Barnard along with Alice Plews were strong at the back. Some good team play and individual runs from Kate Saunders and Sophie in front of goal led the girls' to a 3-1 victory. King's were the overall well deserved champions. Squad: Alice Plews, Amy Bellis (captain), Sophie Clough, Hannah Rudge, Kate Saunders, Kate Phillipson, Kathryn Williams, Siobhan Barnard. back to results tablesU12 A girls lost 0-1 against Birkenhead school away February 10, 2010U12 B girls lost 0-1 against Birkenhead school away February 10, 2010 |
