Senior Prefects
The Prefect system is an integral part of the day-to-day running of the school and offers many young men and women the opportunity to act as role models, organise events and develop their leadership skills.
The Prefect System is divided into:
- Head of School team (Head of School, Head of Boys, Head of Girls)
- Senior Prefects (with various responsibilities)
- Dining Hall Prefects
- Library Prefects
- Form Prefects
King’s has a balanced team of Prefects. There are individuals representing different skills, interests and areas within the school who work together for the good of the school and to gain from the experience of teamwork.
There are several important general principles which the Senior Prefects follow:
- Be a role model; someone for younger pupils to aspire to be like;
- Guide, advise and care for those in their charge;
- Be fair, just and consistent in dealing with others;
- Show initiative;
- Always be in the right place at the right time.
The Senior Prefect team organises and leads in a range of areas including assemblies, open morning, parents’ evenings and the leavers’ ball. Positions of responsibility are also assigned regarding the leading of extra-curricular, musical and sporting activities by relevant members of staff. The upper sixth is expected, as a whole, to contribute to a variety of duties and every upper sixth student is assigned a Removes student to act as a buddy throughout their first year in the school. In this way we hope to allow all students to develop their skills as leaders and role models across the school and specifically within the sixth form.
