King's pupils entertain audience with a performance of 'The Country House'The King’s School pupils have been performing The Country House this week. It was the first staging of the play written by Sir John Vanbrugh since 1710 and it was a fitting tribute that it was performed in the theatre which bears his name. With pupils ranging from Removes to Sixth Form, The Country House was directed by Emma Lucia of Theatre Clwyd and assisted by professional designer Judith Croft of Manchester Library Theatre. The play is very funny. The main character Bernard wants a simple life in the country, but his party loving family are determined to bring all the glitz of the city to liven up the country house, much to his horror. The comedy rests in the conflicting desires of the characters and the lengths they are prepared to go to in order to get what they want. ![]() ![]()
