Junior School participate in ‘On Your Marks, Get Set, Cook!’
Pupils from The King’s School Junior School have had a morning of great excitement as the whole school took part in ‘On Your Marks, Get Set, Cook!’. Working with the ‘Fun into Food’ team from school caterer’s Chartwells, two teams of pupils, lead by a teacher competed against the clock and in front of fellow pupils to create the best healthy dish from a selection of mystery ingredients in 15 minutes. The sessions are designed to help the pupils learn basic cookery techniques and find out more about healthy eating and nutrition. As well as practical cookery tips, the teams also look at things like the origins of foods and their nutritional value. The Green Team lead by teacher Mrs Rudd, prepared a chickpea and spinach Balti with rice whilst the Red Team lead by teacher Mr O’Neill, cooked mini meatballs, noodles with sweet and sour sauce. After 15 frantic minutes, the audience decided the winner, it was a close run competition with the Red Team just piping the Green Team to be the winners. The pupils found the experience very enjoyable as they cheered for their favourite team, tried the dishes and gained an understanding about nutrition too.
