The Hearing Dogs Association Charity Week

The King’s School recently welcomed The Hearing Dogs Association Charity to the School, who gave a talk to pupils regarding how hearing dogs are trained and how they can help those who are hard of hearing.

Following on from the talk, Fourth Year pupils held a charity week in order to lend support this organisation. The week began with six pupils pretending that they were deaf during their break and lunch time and whilst they were walking along the corridors.

After this, members of the Lower sixth volunteered to wash staff members’ cars. This was followed by a fete with live music, ‘Splat the Rat’, a raffle, and a selection of food and drinks being sold by the pupils in order to raise money for the charity.

The pupils who participated were able to gain an understanding of what it is like to be deaf and recognise how essential hearing dogs are to deaf people to their daily routines. King’s would like to thank all of those pupils who were involved in the fundraising efforts, they managed to raise £344.05.
