The prefect system flourishes at King's. It offers
to many young men and women the opportunity to serve their community
and a chance to develop and practice  leadership
skills.
One senior student is appointed Head of School
and he or she is supported by two other prefects as Head of Girls
and Head of Boys respectively. These three also take additional
whole-school responsibilities.
A number of Senior Prefects are appointed with
specific roles. These are centred upon the life and work of the
sixth form in particular, but the influence of many of them extends
out into the whole school community. For instance a Prefect will
have responsibility for overseeing drama, another will be the Prefect
for sport.
Five Day Prefects organise and supervise the duties
carried out by patrolling sixth form students during each school
day. These Prefects work closely with duty staff so that the school
is effectively supervised during the school day.
In addition to the Prefects, a sixth former is
appointed as Captain of each representative sport. Other activities
(such as the Schola Cantorum, the Charities Committee and the Library)
also have sixth form students in charge of them, under a member
of staff.
