Christmas Appeal launched

This year’s Christmas appeal has been launched and local, national and international causes are set to benefit from the generosity of our pupils and families.

Our Charity Prefects have designed a Reverse Advent Calendar with the aim of boosting donations through some healthy inter-house competition! Each tutor group has an advent calendar to complete with house points available for every completed calendar. The tutor group that makes the most donations in each House will get their own chocolate advent calendar to enjoy in December.

This year, we are asking for the following donations:

  • Food donations for West Cheshire Foodbank (see below)
  • Socks and Chocs for Share
  • Selection boxes for the children’s ward at the Countess of Chester Hospital
  • Shoeboxes for Teams 4U

Sixth Former Victoria Froehling (L6GLA) volunteers at the Campbell Centre’s homeless drop-in and she decided to organise the Foodbank collection to include it in the Reverse Advent Calendar appeal after speaking to a fellow volunteer.

Last year’s in-school collection provided one tonne of food for the Foodbank in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The campaign has started later this year with the intention of continuing to collect donations into January. Victoria explained why this was important.

She said: “People are very generous before Christmas and it is a time of great need, but the need is often greater in January when many people struggle financially and sometimes have to choose between buying food and heating their homes.”

Food can be left in the box opposite the Gallery at any time. The most in-demand items are currently:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Porridge
  • Jam
  • Tinned custard
  • UHT milk
  • UHT juice
  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned potatoes
  • Instant mash
  • Biscuits
  • Christmas treats for children such as sweets and chocolates

Mrs Cooper will be delivering donations to the Foodbank and keeping us informed of the total weight of goods donated.

The deadline for the House competition is Friday, December 3.
