Dave McCarthy talks to students about Food Retail Economics

On Tuesday 14 January Dave McCarthy, Managing Director of Global Retail at HSBC (OKS 1978), returned to King’s to speak to students about Food Retail Economics. The presentation took place in the Vanbrugh Theatre and over 120 students attended, all of whom are studying either business or economics. Dave outlined how many of the topics  he covered in Economics at school, for example adverse inflation and economies of scale were still very useful and relevant to his own work. He discussed food retail as a natural monopoly, increasingly dominated by a few firms, led by Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Lidl. The Economics department were extremely grateful for the opportunity to hear from such a knowledgeable and interesting former pupil about his work.

If you’re interested in talking to the students, please get in touch on alumni@kingschester.co.uk – we’d love to hear from you!
