Author visits go virtual

Shell pupils were treated to a fantastic author visit from Matt Dickinson thanks to the power of technology!

Matt, who wrote ‘The Everest Files’, one of the books that students read in English, spoke to each class about his own experiences of climbing Mount Everest.  He then set pupils to task of writing an article examining the arguments for and against why Everest should be closed to climbers.

Matt set out the main points on both sides of the argument, and gave pupils the opportunity to ask him more questions to help with their research.  Matt shared some fascinating and sometimes harrowing facts about Everest (over 300 people have died in their attempt to climb the mountain) and pupils (and staff!) were completely enthralled by his stories and photos.

The best 10 articles will be sent to Matt so that he can choose very best to win some of his books.
