At this week’s Careers Breakfast, former pupil Nick Fearnhead (OKS 2006) returned to King’s to talk to pupils about his career in Civil Engineering.
After leaving King’s with A levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, Nick studied Engineering at Durham, specialising in Civil Engineering in his final year. After graduation, he was a full-time athlete at the Leander Club for two years during which time he also rowed for Great Britain.
A Masters degree from Imperial College led to his first role in Civil Engineering where he worked on the construction of the Elizabeth Line in London.
Since then, he has worked on a number of major projects including nuclear plants, reservoirs, new railways and the UK’s first carbon capture project, HyNet.
Now working for Balfour Beatty in business account development, Nick talked about the ways in which his day-to-day work has changed, and highlighted the different pathways that are now open to young people who are interested in a career in Civil Engineering.
Thank you to Nick for giving up his time to give pupils an insight into Civil Engineering.
Next week, we will welcome Dr Delan Devakumar, Professor of Global Child Health. Senior School pupils can register on SOCS (Senior School events) now.
