Former Parent Francis Ball MBE (Sons: Edward Ball OKS (94), James Ball OKS (93)), founded Bridge Community Farms in Ellesmere Port in 2015. The 10-acre farm grows vegetables, salad and fruit using organic methods and sells organically grown delivered vegetable boxes throughout the Wirral and West Cheshire. The charity also provides support and a therapeutic environment for those with mental health and life-long learning difficulties as well as work experience for young people and the long-term unemployed.
Since the start of the pandemic, the staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure that vulnerable people in the local community received vital goods and that vegetable box orders were distributed on time. They also produced almost 10,000 free meals for families over the holidays. They rely heavily on volunteers and are always eager for help from those who could contribute a few hours a week to make deliveries, help with veg growing, or be a part of their onsite café team. Previous King’s student David Vickers (OKS 2012) has volunteered with Bridge Community Farms in the past and had a fantastic experience.
