On Thursday, 1 October, we welcomed a very special group of visitors to Willow Lodge. At the invitation of our Reception children, it was wonderful to see so many Grandparents enjoying an afternoon in our infant school.

Grandparents Day is an annual highlight in the calendar; our youngest children relish the opportunity to proudly show off their classroom and playground, introduce grandparents to their new friends and show everything they have learned since the beginning of term.

The afternoon culminated with a concert in Willow Lodge Hall which saw the children perform favourite songs with huge enthusiasm. The Hall was filled with joyous singing as grandparents joined in with old favourites such as I’m a Little Teapot, matching their grandchildren’s energy and proving that they still knew all of the words – and actions!

Head of Willow Lodge and Junior School, Mrs Dewhurst, thanked the visitors for coming to Willow Lodge and congratulated the children on a brilliant performance.

She said: “It is difficult to believe that these children have only been in school for four weeks. They performed today with such confidence and I am incredibly proud of them. I can only imagine how you – their grandparents – must feel as you watch them today.

“It is testament to the expertise of our Early Years staff, as well as the nurturing environment we create at Willow Lodge, that they have achieved so much in such a short period of time.”

Grandparents also thanked the Willow Lodge staff for a very special afternoon and we are pleased  to share some of their comments here:

“We had a wonderful time seeing our granddaughter and her friends enjoying their school so much. We loved the show too!”

“Such a lovely afternoon with fantastic singing. Thank you.”

“A lovely visit, our granddaughter has settled so well.”

“It was lovely to see the children so happy and confident.”

“It was such a pleasure to be at Willow Lodge today. Our grandson has had an amazing start to his school life and is very lucky to have such kind and caring teachers.”

“We were very impressed by the splendid singing!”

“We travelled all the way from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to see our grandson’s school and it was definitely worth it!”

“I was so incredibly proud to watch my grandson belt out those songs so confidently today.”
