We were hugely excited to welcome award-winning author Tamsin Winter to King’s recently to speak to Removes and Shells about her journey to becoming a published author.
Tamsin regaled us with her own story of sibling rivalry and how her desire to be the golden child inspired her journey into writing, from her early attempts at becoming an author to seeing her books published and earning a place on her parents’ wall of fame!
With plenty of humour and wit, she also shared an honest insight into the editing process and the importance of perseverance, reminding pupils that although we all want to give up when things get difficult, sticking with it can make all the difference.
Tamsin also led a creative writing masterclass for 30 pupils who had been selected from both year groups. Using her tips and tricks, they were challenged to build their own fictional worlds, and we are sure that the beginnings of some future bestsellers were penned.
Tamsin won our Removes, Shells and Thirds Book Award last year with her novel I Dare You, a copy of which was gifted to every Removes pupil to celebrate King’s love of reading as part of the National Year of Reading.
The visit was organised by Head Librarian, Jodie Brooks. She said: “Tamsin is a particular favourite at King’s and she was a fantastic guest, and we would like to thank her for such an inspiring and enjoyable morning. We very much look forward to welcoming her back to King’s in the future.”
