North of England hockey champions

In an amazing week for hockey last week, the U18 girls hockey team went to The Olympic Park for the national Independent Hockey School Cup (IHSC) plate final, the U18 boys finished runners-up in the North West final, and the U14 boys have won the North of England title at Leeds.

The skilled U14 hockey players beat Yarm and St Peter’s York 3-0 and 3-0, and drew 0-0 with Altrincham to take the North of England title.

This means that they now qualify for the National U14 finals – well done, boys!

King’s U12 boys’ hockey team have also had a fantastic term. The talented U12 team won the North West Championship in late February, and then have gone on to face the top North of England sides in the North Championships last Friday. They won their group convincingly with big wins over St Olaves (York), RGS Newcastle and Cheadle Hulme to reach the final. Unfortunately, they couldn’t quite match their U14 colleagues and lost the final 2-0 to Yarm, despite being the better side for long periods.

Well done to the team on a great season though, the Yarm game was the only loss in 15 matches with the other 14 all wins!
