Reception children spread their wings on first school trip

Our Reception classes have recently enjoyed their very first school trip.

In their topic, “Hattie Peck”, the children have been learning about birds and other hatchlings that come out of eggs so they were very excited about the opportunity to meet some real-life birds of prey at the Cheshire Falconry Centre.

Throughout the day, they learned a lot of new facts about owls and they were even brave enough to hold some of the birds.

They met a number of different birds during their visit including Flash, a Northern white-faced Eagle Owl and a Barn Owl called Samantha.

As well as getting close to the birds, the children also enjoyed a walk in the natural forest, and were able to compare the trees and plants they saw to those in our own Forest School. They also had great fun toasting marshmallows on the campfire.

Mrs Callaghan, Reception teacher and Deputy Head of Willow Lodge was very proud of the children.

She said: “Trips like this are important for the children as they get a real hands-on learning experience. It’s a fantastic opportunity to engage with their topic and explore the awe and wonder in the world around them.”

The children all behaved perfectly and were excellent ambassadors for the King’s school.”
