A reunion to span the decades

In a heartwarming celebration of shared history and lifelong friendships, alumni from the classes of 1955, 1975, and 1985 gathered on Saturday 26th April for a special school reunion that bridged decades of memories.

The event, hosted at King’s, brought together more than 35 former students who were warmly welcomed by the new Head of School team.

The day began with a nostalgic tour of school grounds, led by members of the student leadership team and former staff. For many, it was their first visit back in decades and for Tom Bateman (OKS 1955) it was his very first visit to the ‘new site’.

While much had changed—the addition of modern classrooms, updated science labs, and a new Sixth Form Centre—many of the original buildings and hallways still stood, evoking stories of youthful mischief, favourite teachers, and unforgettable lessons.

The tour was followed by a two-course curry lunch in the Sixth Form Centre, which had been decorated with photographs and memorabilia from the alumni’s time at the school. Guests enjoyed a hearty meal, followed by a selection of cakes, served with tea and coffee and a few alcoholic beverages!

Laughter and chatter filled the room as old classmates reconnected, reminiscing about school plays, sports days, and the music of their youth.

The afternoon concluded with a thoughtful and inspiring talk from Headmaster George Hartley, who spoke about the school’s ongoing evolution, its recent achievements, and the legacy left by past generations. He highlighted how the values instilled decades ago—curiosity, community, and resilience—remain central to the school’s mission today.

Mr Hartley said: “This reunion is more than a gathering, it’s a celebration of continuity how each generation contributes to the spirit of our school. It is always a joy to welcome Old King’s Scholars home.”

The event was a touching reminder that while the world changes and life moves on, the bonds forged during school days remain.
