Careers Breakfast: Mr Paul Harrington, Cyber Security Expert

We were delighted to welcome Mr Paul Harrington to speak at our Careers Breakfast on Friday, 10 June.

Students from all year groups gathered in the Old Library to hear Mr Harrington talk about his career in cyber security.

As Executive Principal Consultant at Manchester-based NCC Group, hacking ATMS and breaking into banks is all in a day’s work for Mr Harrington!

After hearing about his own career path, students were interested to learn about the different routes into the industry, including NCC’s Next Gen Talent Program, as well as opportunities for degree apprenticeships and sponsored degrees.

Students were also fascinated, and amused, as he recalled some of his career highlight which have included providing tech support to celebrities, working on secret government projects and the time he accidentally hacked half of the internet.

Head of Careers, Dr Hensman, thanked Mr Harrington for a fascinating insight into cyber security, and his specific field of penetration testing.

He said: “This morning’s careers breakfast will have really opened our students’ eyes to the opportunities available in cyber.

“Mr Harrington shared some incredibly useful tips with us to help students get started in cyber from home, including hacking competitions and insightful podcasts.”
