Challenge 2 – Biology (parental supervision required!)

Five facts about Biology

• Psychology has just purchased an EEG machine which can project areas of the brain used onto a 3D image when completing different tasks

• The Biology department runs an exotic animal club where pupils can learn about animal husbandry. We have Bearded Dragons called Bruce and Winnie, a Royal Python called Monty and two Leopard Geckos called Speckle and Banana.

• The Science Faculty regularly hosts talks given by university lecturers and hospital clinicians. Last year, King’s hosted the UK’s National Pathology Week. This involved a packed lecture theatre and a forensic scientist showing a mock autopsy on a Sixth Form ‘volunteer’!

• King’s runs an annual trip to the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) in Geneva. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Bosworth, who worked there as a graduate student, has travelled there with more than 400 A Level Physics students

• The Physics preparation room contains nearly 1,000 different items of apparatus for experiments and demonstrations and nearly 10,000 pieces in total when full class sets are added up
