Welcome to King’s Sport

Sport is an important part of the wider education offered here at King’s with a huge range of sports on offer for all pupils. King’s teams routinely play hundreds of fixtures per year in competitive sports but we are also passionate about developing a range of sports and activities designed to increase participation and fitness for all.

Small group sizes allow each pupil to get one-to-one attention and the mixture of individual and team sports ensures that all pupils have the opportunity to explore sports and PE, finding the activities that they enjoy. Committed, well qualified staff are supported by outstanding coaches, allowing pupils the chance to develop in their chosen sports. King’s has full fixture lists in several sports and consistently reach county, regional and national finals.

Our new £4.5m Sports Centre houses a multi-purpose studio for classes such as Pilates, yoga, gymnastics and aerobics, a fitness gym suite with a dedicated area for ergo/rowing machines and other facilities including a classroom. A new reception area leads through to the swimming pool, new changing rooms and sports hall. The centre is also a new home for the King’s Combined Cadet Force and is complemented with a sports quad, with a seating and landscaped area.

We aim to ensure that everyone discovers a sport they can play and enjoy for life.
Richard Lunn, Director of Sport

We encourage all pupils to take part in sport outside of lessons and all are welcome to attend extra-curricular practices, whatever their skill-level. The life-skills of determination, commitment and team-work are developed through sport and we pride ourselves on the role it plays in the formation of fine young men and women who leave school with confidence, high skill levels and positive attitudes. In addition to the undoubted contribution these skills make towards future success, the main aim of the department is to build confidence and enjoy sport at whatever level throughout their lives.

We offer 28 different sports, and this variety of sport encourages participation in a full and varied range of sporting skills.
