On Thursday, 5 February, we welcomed author Jennifer Killick to school for a very special visit to King’s.
Jennifer is the award-winning author of the popular Serial Chillers series whose book, The Witch in the Woods, has been nominated by our pupils for the Lower School award.
Children from J3, J4 and Removes were invited to hear Jennifer speak in a special assembly, where she spoke about her latest book, The Monster in the Woods. As well as sharing insights into her writing, her characters, and what inspires her stories, Jennifer engaged pupils by asking if they could survive in one of the scary scenarios in her book!
Following the assembly, pupils were able to take part in a book signing. Always a highlight of any author visit, pupils enjoyed chatting to Jennifer about their favourite moments from her stories whilst proudly getting their copies of her books signed.
During the course of her visit, Jennifer was also interviewed by one of our young journalists for the school magazine, answering thoughtful questions about her career, her writing process and her advice for aspiring authors.
The visit was organised by Head Librarian, Miss Brooks.
She said: “It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and excited about reading, asking thoughtful questions and talking enthusiastically about books.
“2026 is the National Year of Reading and Jennifer’s visit has been a wonderful way to celebrate the joy of reading with our pupils, made even more special by the fact that we brough Junior and Senior School pupils together for this event.
“Thank you to Jennifer for such an engaging and inspiring visit.”
