Book Week winners announced

Book Week is over for another year and it’s time to announce the week’s big winners.

In Senior School, competition was fierce in the tutor time Kahoot quizzes. The winning House was announced as Dutton with Willow Parker (pictured, SHDUT) receiving a special prize in recognition of her exceptional score – 19,363 points and no wrong answers!

Mrs Harding spent a long weekend counting and verifying the votes in the KSC Book Awards and she was very excited to finally be able to announce the winners.

In Junior School, the winner of the J1 and J2 Award was Dom Conlon for the incredibly popular Meet Matilda Rocket Builder

In his pre-recorded acceptance speech, Dom thanked the children for voting for the book.

He said: “Heidi, the book’s amazing illustrator, and I are over the moon about winning. It’s out of this world, thank you so much!”

J3 and J4 voted as their winner The Valley of Lost Secrets by Lesley Parr.

Lesley also thanked pupils for voting for her book and, in reference to one of the book’s main characters, she said: “Perhaps I need to celebrate Ronnie-style – with lots of red pop!”

In the Senior School awards, Removes and Shells voted for Phil Earle’s When the Sky Falls.

Mrs Harding said: “This book is so popular, it is always checked out of the library. It has really captured the hearts and imaginations of the pupils and they are all looking forward to Phil’s next book which will be published in June.”

Finally, the Teen Award went to Jason Reynolds for Long Way Down.

About the winner, Mrs Harding said: “The stunning illustrations by Danica Novgorodoff brought this amazing book to the attention of even more pupils and they have absolutely loved it.”

Congratulations to all of our winners and runners-up!
