Junior School Basketball players shoot hoops with the pros

Three boys in Junior School are looking forward to seeing themselves on TV when this week’s Blue Peter airs on Friday, 1 March. 

Jai Verney (J4M), Josh Carway (J3H) and Frank Glass (J4S), who all play basketball for Cheshire Phoenix, enjoyed a more unusual training session recently when Blue Peter researchers and cameras turned up to film at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Following the training session, some of the young players were invited to attend a show match in Manchester last week between the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals. Jai and Josh – along with Josh’s sister Imogen who is in Removes and also plays for Cheshire Phoenix – were among the lucky few.

With Blue Peter cameras also following the action at the game, the pupils had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn some basketball tricks from the Harlem Globetrotters players themselves.
