A Brass Masterclass for our Junior School musicians turned into a treat for the whole school when they put on a fabulous outdoor concert.
We have a strong musical tradition at King’s and we are always delighted when our Junior School pupils take up a new instrument. Brass is particularly popular with our current juniors and Head of Brass, Mr Ortiz, organised some special visitors for them this week.
Leeds-based ensemble “Backchat Brass” were invited in to give a junior masterclass and our young musicians spent a busy morning having fun with their instruments, developing their performance skills and working with the professionals on music for the afternoon concert.
Just before the end of the school day, there was great excitement as Junior School and Willow Lodge pupils gathered on the grass for the main event.
Our very own junior musicians joined Backchat Brass in entertaining the crowd with their versions of some well-known songs (their rendition of George Ezra’s Shotgun was almost drowned out by the children’s singing!), having a go at the blues, and ending with the piece they had worked so hard on all day – the Wellerman sea shanty.
