Warm welcome for award-winning author

On 13 June, Junior School pupils were very excited to welcome author Lesley Parr into school.

Lesley is the author of The Valley of Lost Secrets, a book about a boy called Jimmy, who is evacuated from London to South Wales in 1939, and When the War Came Home set in South Wales just after the First World War.

A firm favourite of the older Junior School pupils, The Valley of Lost Secrets won the J3 and J4 Award in this year’s KSC Book Awards.

Lesley began her day in school with an all-school assembly, and also ran two enjoyable workshops for J3 pupils.

At lunchtime, pupils were able to meet Lesley, buy a book and even get their own copies of her books signed.

Librarian, Ros Harding, said: “Having heard about her books from the J3s and J4s, it was wonderful to see so many J1 and J2 pupils queuing up to buy the books and chat to Lesley.”

Lesley enjoyed talking to the pupils and was asked some great questions about being an author.

She said: “After my virtual visit earlier this year, I felt like I already knew the school so it has been great to visit King’s in person to meet and work with the children.”
