Adam is flying high

Adam Beard (4FOX) has been flying high this summer after gaining one of only 200 places – and becoming the first ever King’s School cadet – on the prestigious National Air & Space Camp at RAF Syerston in the East Midlands.

The annual camp attracts thousands of applications every year and Mr Brown, CCF co-ordinator, was delighted when the news came through that Adam had been allocated a coveted place.

Mr Brown said: “Adam is a committed cadet with ambitions to join the RAF as a pilot or engineer and longer-term aspirations towards the UK Space Programme. As such, he fully earned – and deserved – his place on the camp.”

Adam’s days at camp were long and action-packed. Over the course of the week, Adam enjoyed a variety of exciting challenges and memorable experiences, including the opportunity to fly a glider, operate RAF drones, take part in hands-on STEM activities and experience aviation engineering.

During the week, Adam made the most of the opportunity to engage with frontline RAF representatives, as well as a number of civil aviation partner organisations. A particular highlight of his recreational time was a special air display that included the Red Arrows.

The camp has inspired Adam to complete his Solo Flying Course, which he hopes to do in the new year, and to start fixed wing flying lessons when he turns 16 next year.

Mr Brown said: “CCF offers so many wonderful opportunities to our cadets and we always hope that they will be inspired by them.

“Adam has really made the most of this incredible opportunity and I hope that his experiences will encourage our younger cadets to apply for their place at next year’s Air & Space Camp.”

CCF meets every Friday after school and is open to all students from Shells upwards.
