It all adds up to success in maths challenges

Following their success in the annual Mathematical Education on Merseyside (MEM) challenges, two King’s pupils are looking forward to an evening of celebration at the University of Liverpool.

The MEM challenges have been running in February half term holidays for more than 40 years, annually attracting in excess of 2,000 entries.

The challenges are split into two categories, each aimed at a different age group. The “best in school” for each category is invited to an evening of mathematical recreation in the Central Teaching Hub at the University of Liverpool, where they will be presented with their prize.

Congratulations to the winners from The King’s School who will be joining fellow mathematicians at the university later this month:

Best in school for Challenge ’22 (Year 8 or below) – Wiktor Lech (SHBRD)

Best in school for Senior Challenge ’22 (Year 10 or below) – Elliott Hall (3GRO)

Maths teacher, Mrs Sugarman, is proud of Wiktor and Elliott’s achievement.

She said: “Although we encourage all students to enter the challenges, there is no obligation for them to do so.

“I am proud that Wiktor and Elliott – along with many other students – chose to take on this challenge in their own time, and I know that they will both enjoy their evening at the University of Liverpool.”
