Alice excels in maths competition

Congratulations to Alice Downey (L6WER) for her recent success in the Open Challenge 24 maths competition.

Organised by the Liverpool Mathematical Society and sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Actuaries, Open Challenge 24 was aimed at higher level maths students and attracted entries from across the country.

The theme of this year’s Open Challenge paper was Constellations with questions that tested mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills.

Alice was highly commended for her entry and Deputy Head of Maths, Helen Sugarman, praised her for her achievement.

She said: “Entering the Open Challenge was optional for all of our Lower Sixth students and I was delighted that a number of them took on the challenge during the February half-term holiday.

“The paper was particularly testing and Alice did incredibly well to win a highly commended certificate.”

Alice is looking forward to attending an online prizegiving event on 9 May with other Open Challenge winners.
