Congratulations to former pupil Kate Coppack (OKS 2012) who has secured a professional cricket contract with Essex.
Kate, who made history at King’s as the first female to play cricket for the first XI, also played for Chester Boughton Hall CC and Cheshire CCC during her time at school.
Going on to play professionally for Middlesex, Sunrisers, and Welsh Fire, she has also made impressive six international appearances for Peru, serving as a guest player in the 2018 South American Women’s Cricket Championship.
Kate is a huge advocate for the game and has recently returned from Uganda with a cricket charity. When we spoke to her about her new contract, she couldn’t hide her excitement.
She said: “I am thrilled to have signed a professional cricket contract with Essex.
“King’s was a vital part of my cricketing journey from Junior School through to Sixth Form and I will always be grateful for the opportunities that King’s provided me, both in sports and academics.”
In addition to her cricketing achievements, Kate is a full-time lawyer and she continues to support the school, acting as our guest speaker at the King’s in the Capital event at Lord’s Cricket Ground in November.
Director of Cricket at King’s, Mark Baker, added his congratulations: “It is fantastic to see Kate continuing to advance in her career as a professional cricketer.
“ With her new contract at Essex, we are delighted that her talents are being recognised and rewarded. As girls cricket goes from strength to strength at King’s, Kate is a true role model to our pupils, inspiring them to maybe one day follow in her footsteps.”
The final word goes to Kate, who has this advice for current pupils:
“I hope that my achievements encourage students to remain active in sport during their school years and beyond, making the most of the opportunities at King’s, as you never know where it might lead you!”
