There was a wonderful buzz at King’s on Saturday, 28th February as 30 former pupils returned to mark 40 and 50 years since leaving school.
Everyone was welcomed with drinks on arrival, giving plenty of time for the first round of hellos, surprised faces and “you haven’t changed a bit!” moments before setting off on a tour of the grounds.
Walking around the school together brought back a flood of memories and lots of laughter, especially as the stories began to emerge about the antics people got up to in their younger days, many of which are definitely best left untold! On the tour, guests remarked that it was fascinating to see the relocation of the library from the clock tower to the main building, and the old gym now being used as the dining hall.
Guests were treated to a delicious two-course lunch in the new Sixth Form Centre, which gave everyone even more time to chat and properly catch up with friends they hadn’t seen in years.
Former pupils were particularly excited to be able to speak with their former teachers who had made a real effort to come along and join the celebrations. It meant a great deal to everyone to see the familiar faces that had played such an important role in their school years.
After lunch, Headmaster George Hartley gave an interesting update on the school today, sharing how much King’s has grown and changed since the classes of 1976 and 1986 were last here. It was a proud moment for many to see how the school has developed whilst still feeling so familiar.
Peter Bernie CAOKS Secretary (OKS 1976) attended the event and said; “Thank you for making Saturday happen and for making it so special. Everyone very much appreciated it.”
We hope to see everyone that attended at another event soon.
