Old King’s Scholars Toast the Festive Season at Fortnum & Mason

On Thursday, 13 November, Fortnum & Mason in London played host to this years King’s in the Capital event, as more than 120 alumni came together to celebrate in style. The event was a sell-out sensation, reaching capacity weeks in advance, with a double figure waiting list eagerly hoping for a last minute spot!

The iconic venue, beautifully dressed for the festive season, created a warm and elegant backdrop for an evening filled with conversation, laughter, and reconnection.

Guests particularly enjoyed the wine tasting, led by Harry Langley (OKS 2019) from Jeroboams.

His engaging presentation, paired with a crisp 2022 Jeroboams White Burgundy and a rich 2016 Château La Tour Cordouan, Médoc, was one of the standout moments of the night and received glowing feedback from attendees.

Harry shared his own reflections: “It was great to see so many King’s alumni with such a diverse age range come together and bond over delicious food and superb wine. Fortnum & Mason has been a very special venue for what I will always remember as a very special evening! Thank you to George and all the King’s team for putting together such a great night.”

The food was equally memorable. Chef’s stations showcased finely crafted charcuterie and artisanal cheeses, whilst Fortnum’s renowned picnic hampers, brimming with Scotch eggs, pork pies, and chicken terrine proved irresistible. A selection of delicate canapés completed the feast, with many guests happily returning for seconds and even thirds!

Niamh Massey (OKS 2016) summed up the evening perfectly: “It was incredible to reconnect with old friends in such a stunning setting. The food, the wine, and the atmosphere all came together to make it a truly memorable night.”

The atmosphere was so warm and inviting that calls quickly went up to make Fortnum & Mason a repeat venue for next year’s alumni gathering, and the Development Office are already taking note.

With such enthusiastic feedback and the unmistakable charm the venue brought to the occasion, excitement is already building for the next King’s in the Capital celebration. If this year is anything to go by, early booking will be essential.

The combination of festive spirit, outstanding hospitality, and the strength of the Old King’s Scholars community made this gathering one to remember and a tradition that is clearly going from strength to strength.
