Already an Emmy nominee for his work on hit television series Rome (2007), Doug Larmour OKS (1994) alongside his peers at leading visual effects studio, Moving Picture Company (MPC), has won an Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards.
Doug is a veteran of the visual effects industry and has worked on a string of Hollywood hit movies including the Harry Potter film franchise and Ridley Scott’s Prometheus as well as several blockbuster television series such as Game of Thrones.
He is currently MPC’s Global Head of Compositing. Compositors work in film and television production, blending together anywhere from two to hundreds of layers of previously-created material, including rendered computer animation, special effects, graphics, 2D animation, live action and static background plates to create a desired look and feel for a production.
Doug has been working in the visual effects industry for nearly two decades. He learnt his skills on the job, beginning his career as a runner. Students interested in following in Doug’s footsteps can pursue training at university or a technical school. There are also plenty of internship opportunities available in the industry for students.
We would like to offer Doug our congratulations from everyone here at King’s.
