Row with REX!

It was fantastic to see a few King’s alumni at the KSRC’s annual Pudding Races on Saturday – a great time was had by all!

Did you know you can now row for King’s after you’ve left?

King’s Alumni Rowing has been formed to allow ex-pupils to continue to enjoy rowing at the School and has formed crews at other major rowing events; such as on the Dee, the Thames and Henley Royal Regatta.

It is part of the Rex Boat Club, a British Rowing club based within the school Rowing Club’s boathouse and made up of Parents and Friends of the school. The club currently has 2 Eights, 4 quads/fours, a double and 2 singles. Formed Alumni crews can also utilise School boats for particular notable events when required and if cleared by the Director of Rowing

2018 saw alumni rowers take part in the Henley Regatta for the first time, under the name of Rex Boat Club. Competing against Upper Thames Boat Club in the Wyfold Challenge Cup. It was a tough challenge and a close race with Upper Thames winning by a small margin! Watch the race here.

Rex trains on Thursday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings as formed crews subject to a person’s availability. Alumni members based or staying in Chester are able to use the gym and Rex boats at the school boathouse. The only criteria is membership of British Rowing and a £10 a month usage fee to Rex.

Kings Alumni Rowing has a Captain, Patrick Hanratty 2018-2019, pat1995.ph@googlemail.com, who is responsible for organising and informing Alumni rowers about events they may wish to take part in, to ensure crews are formed, entries are made and boats made available and transported. The Captain is helped by Area Secretaries Tommy Reeves, North – tommy.reeves@hotmail.co.uk  and Hannah Blaikie, South – hblaikie@hotmail.co.uk whose role is to assist the Captain in ensuring events in their area are well managed.
