On Saturday, 20 September, sixty members of The King’s School Chester’s Class of 2020 came back together for a long awaited reunion.
It’s hard to believe it’s already been five years since they left King’s, but not easy to forget that their final year was cut short by the pandemic, meaning that they missed out on many of the usual celebrations, including their prom. This weekend was a chance to make up for lost time.
The group gathered at Chester Races in the Final Furlong Marquee, where a delicious carvery and all-inclusive drinks kept everyone in high spirits.
Although the rain poured down outside, it certainly didn’t dampen the mood inside the marquee. Laughter, stories, and fond memories filled the room as old friends reconnected and picked up right where they had left off.
It was wonderful to see familiar faces from school too. Headmaster, George Hartley and Head of Sixth Form, Josh Carter, joined the celebration, along with teachers Claire Sumner, Ali Hollingworth, Krista Jones, and Seb Neal, all of whom were warmly welcomed back by their former pupils.
Josh commented “It was such a joy to see the Class of 2020 together again after all these years. They missed out on so much at the end of their time at King’s, but what struck me was how strong their friendships remain and how warmly they still speak about their time here. It reminded me what a special year group they are.”
The day was filled with smiles, hugs, and plenty of reminiscing, a fitting celebration for a year group who showed such resilience and togetherness during an unprecedented time. The Class of 2020 may have left without a prom, but they made up for it with this unforgettable reunion.
Alice Okell thanked the school for organising the reunion: ”I just want to say a massive thank you for organising the event yesterday. I had such a great time and know everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was so great to see people I haven’t seen for 5 years! We all really appreciated the effort that went into organising it!
Here’s to more get togethers in the years ahead, and to the friendships and memories of the King’s community that last a lifetime.
