We are very proud of Amelia Standing (OKS 2018), who continues to make waves in the rowing world.
Amelia has had the most incredible season, capping it off with multiple international medals as part of the GB Women’s Eight.
This year, she was selected to row in the 3 seat of the senior women’s eight, a crew that went on to win the European Championships, take victory at a World Cup race, and claim bronze at the World Rowing Championships!
Remarkably, Amelia’s success continues a run of several historic firsts for King’s:
Reflecting on her achievements, Amelia told us:
“It’s been really exciting to come away from my first year on the senior team with multiple international medals, and an honour to represent not only my country but the clubs which have helped me become the athlete I am. Adjusting to the training of a full-time athlete has been challenging, especially while balancing PhD studies – I’ve been exhausted for most of the year! But being part of the team achieving so much has been worth every kilometre, and I’m excited for more to come.”
Amelia’s journey from King’s Boat Club to the world stage has been one of determination and excellence. Her achievements not only highlight her own commitment but also reflect the strength and growth of rowing at King’s.
Nick Wells, Director of Rowing at King’s, commented:
“We are incredibly proud of Amelia and everything she has achieved on the international stage. She is an inspiration to our current athletes and a fantastic role model for the next generation of King’s rowers. It’s exciting to see what she’s accomplished and to build on this momentum as we continue to develop the strength and depth of the rowing programme here at King’s.”
Amelia’s story serves as an inspiration to all aspiring athletes, a testament to perseverance, passion, and the pursuit of excellence. With role models like her leading the way, the future of King’s rowing looks brighter than ever.
