On Wednesday, 4 June, King’s once again played host to the Northeast Northwest Standing Committee for Science’s School Technicians Conference.
It was a pleasure to welcome almost 50 secondary school science technicians from the North of England and Wales for a busy day of workshops, networking and learning.
The conference was organised by Dr Helen Faulkner, Faculty Head of Science at The King’s School.
She said: “Without technicians, the teaching of science just cannot happen. It is essential that technicians are supported in their vital role and that is why this conference is so important; it gives technicians an opportunity to upskill, learn from each other and spend important time together.”
A total of twelve workshops throughout the day covered various aspects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology training, ranging from how to build an LED array for determining Planck’s constant to studying useful plants for A level required practical investigations.
In addition, delegates were able to browse a number of exhibitor stands and they even enjoyed a sponsored raffle.
Dr Faulkner concluded: “It was such a valuable day and the positive feedback we received from delegates proves the need for a conference like this.
“As well as commenting on the quality of the facilities and helpfulness of the staff at King’s, delegates enjoyed the practical nature of the workshops, the opportunity to talk to technicians from other schools and the variety of the day.”
