Award-nominated authors delight pupils

Pupils were treated to a double bill of virtual author visits today.

Junior School pupils have shortlisted Lesley Parr’s book Valley of Lost Secrets for the 2022 J3 and J4 KSC Book Award and they were very excited to hear from the author this morning.

The children asked some excellent questions about the book, and Lesley thanked them for their enthusiasm and with bookmarks and posters for all of our Junior School classes.

She said: “This was such a great way to start a Friday.

What lovely pupils – so enthusiastic and polite. Thank you for having me.”

Removes gathered in the library to spend their tutor period with Phil Earle, author of another KSC Book Award-nominated book, When the Sky Falls

Phil answered a number of excellent questions about the book itself, and also spoke about how he became a writer, particularly as someone who didn’t enjoy reading when he was younger.

In a very exciting moment, when asked about his next book, King’s pupils became the very first people to see a preview of his new book’s front cover. Sadly, no photos (or screenshots) were allowed!

Phil Earle and Lesley Parr both feature on the 2022 Carnegie Greenaway Awards long list of nominated books. However, the winners of the KSC Book Awards will be announced in a little over a week and all pupils are encouraged to vote for their favourite books when voting opens on 28 February.
