Baking challenge winners have the recipe for success!

During the last lockdown, Head of Catering Matt Ferguson challenged pupils across the school to get creative in the kitchen.

Reflecting the unusual year we have all lived through, Matt and his team invited pupils to unleash their imagination and create a bake on the theme “Weird and Wonderful”. From Willow Lodge to Seniors, our young bakers donned their oven gloves and added a sprinkle of creativity to their cake mixes to amaze us with their creations!

Mia Elton (I1WD), Daniel Goharriz (ShGRO) and Jessica Goldsmith (J4O) took inspiration from the Great British Bake Off to create incredible illusion bakes. Mia and Jessica baked sweet pizzas that wouldn’t look out of place on a dinner table, and Daniel used marshmallow, fondant and strawberry laces to recreate seaweed, crabsticks and rice in his cupcake sushi.

Our other two winners were from Thirds, both of whom baked space-themed cakes. We loved the fun colours that Gemma used for her alien cake, and we agreed with Lily-Ella Barnard (3GRO)  that her tasty crispy cupcake resembled a sample taken by the Perseverance robot on Mars!

Matt presented the prizes this week, with each of our winners receiving a voucher to an independent coffee shop of their choice. Our local independents have had a difficult year and we were delighted to support them, with our bakers choosing vouchers for The Jaunty Goat, Hanky Panky Pancakes, CUPS and Brown Sugar in Chester, and Brew and Tucker in Frodsham.

Well done to all of our prize winners!
