There was a real buzz in the Sixth Form Lecture theatre this morning as we welcomed Mr Mitsuo Hirakawa for today’s Careers Breakfast.
Mr Hirakawa has spent over 20 years working in the games industry, developing and publishing games for companies such as PlayStation and EA.
Now working at Twitch, he sources new gaming opportunities and works with influencers to help grow online communities.
A full house of students listened attentively as Mr Hirakawa talked about the path he took into the games industry and outlined the main requirements to be successful in the key roles of software engineer and artist. Students also heard about the other, less obvious roles within the industry such as legal services, IT support and Marketing.
Mr Hirakawa delighted students as he used examples of games that he has worked on such as FIFA and Harry Potter, and talked about the influencers that he now works with at Twitch.
Dr Hensman thanked Mr Hirakawa for his time this morning: “We know that many of our students aspire to work in the games industry and I am very grateful to Mr Hirakawa for giving them such a fascinating and valuable insight into the business of gaming.
Students left this morning’s talk with more knowledge about the qualifications, experience and traits they need to be successful in the industry.”
